The Commission advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities. The OFFICE OF THE STATE GUARDIAN serves as appointed "guardian of last resort" for adults with disabilities who are unable to make or communicate their own personal or financial decisions, when appointed by the court. The HUMAN RIGHTS AUTHORITY investigates complaints of alleged violations against disability laws as well as negotiation with providers. Non-legal issues can also be addressed. The LEGAL ADVOCACY SERVICE provides legal assistance to eligible persons who have mental, developmental, physical, or aged-related disabilities. LAS may assist with legal problems that encompass mental health facilities, treatment, special education, guardianship, confidentiality, and other matters which affect persons with disabilities.
